The Mishawaka Foundation was established in 1946 to award campership grants to children of families who could not otherwise afford to provide the benefits of a camp experience at Camp Mishawaka and other camps.

Since 1946, we have been able to aid hundreds of deserving children with the opportunity to have this educational and recreational experience. In 2022 we awarded $104,150 in grants to 24 deserving candidates.

The Foundation’s mission is “Serving Youth through Camping.” Our propose is to positively influence the lives of financially disadvantage children through life changing summer camp experience.

We believe:

  • The benefits of a Camp Mishawaka or other camp experience can change the life of a disadvantaged child.
  • The Foundation should provide campership grants to children of families who could not otherwise afford it.
  • That the diversity that the Foundation Children bring to Camp Mishawaka is a benefit to the camp experience.
  • That those who have benefited from the camp experience, in turn should try to provide it to the financially disadvantaged.

In August, 2022  the Mishawaka Foundation has pledged our support to the efforts to convert Camp Mishawaka to a non-profit organization. We recently made a very generous $250,000 grant to the new organization’s scholarship fund and we will continue to be the source of scholarship funds during the organizational transition in 2023. In the following years the Foundation will fund grants for existing recipients, to see them through their Mishawaka careers, and provide ongoing support to the Mishawaka scholarship fund with disbursements from our remaining endowment.

Although the Mishawaka Foundation will still be active in the coming years, we will no longer solicit donations from Camp friends and alumni. All donations for scholarship funding should be directed to Camp Mishawaka, Inc.  a 501(c)(3) organization, which offers the same tax deductibility for donations as the Foundation.
